Longtime Democrat Senator, Pine Bluff Mayor, Endorses Asa Hutchinson for Governor

Little Rock - Senator Jerry Taylor today announced his support and public endorsement of Republican Asa Hutchinson in his candidacy for Arkansas Governor. Taylor's endorsement is particularly notable given his longtime public service as a Democrat. In the State Senate, Taylor represented Cleveland County and parts of Desha, Grant, Jefferson, Lincoln and Saline counties.

"I support Asa's candidacy for Governor and fully support his efforts. I believe he is the right man to lead Arkansas now. We cannot afford to turn Arkansas' top post over to anyone who ever voted for or helped to advance Obamacare. Asa will make a great Governor."

Asa Hutchinson added, "I am honored to have Jerry Taylor's support. Few in modern Arkansas history have cast a public shadow as large as Jerry's in South Arkansas. This endorsement is further validation of what I'm hearing as I travel the state- that given the choice, Arkansans, whether Republican or Democrat, prefer our commitment to economic growth and consistent opposition to Obamacare to their alternative choices in the race."

A lifelong Democrat, Taylor served in the Arkansas State Senate from 2005 until being term limited in January 2013. Additionally, he served two terms in the Arkansas House of Representatives, as the mayor of Pine Bluff for eight years and as a member of the Pine Bluff City Council for 12 years.
